Filner Appoints Hughes as Real Estate Adviser

San Diego Mayor Bob Filner has appointed Jason Hughes, president and CEO of local brokerage firm Hughes Marino Inc., as a special assistant to advise the mayor’s office on the city’s downtown office real estate needs.

The position is voluntary and expected to continue as long as necessary. “I appreciate Jason’s commitment to public service in this advisory role, which he will perform without compensation from any party,” Filner said in a statement.

Hughes has worked in commercial real estate for the past 25 years, most recently in tenant representation and buyer services. He formed Hughes Marino, with headquarters in downtown San Diego, in 2011, and was previously president and co-owner of the local brokerage firm Irving Hughes for 18 years.

According to local brokerage firm reports, the city of San Diego has approximately 523,000 square feet of leases that will be up for renewal or otherwise in transition in coming months.
