Penn National Gaming to Develop Hollywood-Themed Casino in Jamul

Publicly traded Penn National Gaming Inc. announced recently that it has signed agreements to develop and then run a Hollywood-themed casino and resort in Jamul.

The Jamul casino has long been discussed but as yet, not been built.

Penn National said it entered into a definitive agreement with the Jamul Indian Village to jointly develop the attraction on the American Indian band’s 6-acre reservation in San Diego’s back country. Penn National plans to run the casino-resort once it is finished.

Construction of the $360 million facility could begin by the end of 2013 and would take 24 months, Penn National said.

The company envisions 1,700 slot machines and 50 table games in a three-story facility, with a partially enclosed parking structure containing more than 1,900 spaces.

The Jamul casino has been an on-again, off-again proposition, and it faces local political opposition.

Penn National operates 29 facilities. The company’s home office is in Wyomissing, Pa., near Philadelphia. Shares of Penn National trade on the Nasdaq as PENN.
