San Diego State Meets BYU in Poinsettia BowlTuesday, November 27, 2012
The San Diego State University Aztec football team will play Brigham Young University in the eighth annual San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 20 at Qualcomm Stadium.
The Aztecs finished their 2012 season with a 9-3 record overall and 7-1 in the Mountain West Conference for a share of the title with Fresno State. Should Boise State win this weekend, it would be a three-way tie for the MWC title.
BYU, which left the MWC last year to play as an independent team, finished their season at 7-5, racking up a quality win over Washington State, and losing by 3 points to No. 1 ranked Notre Dame.
This is the Aztecs’ third straight bowl game appearance, having won in 2010 over Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl, and losing to Louisiana-Lafayette in last year’s R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
The Cougars and Aztecs were fierce rivals in the MWC from the late 1990s to 2010. Next year, the Aztec football squad will compete in the Big East Conference.
