Thursday, May 17, 2012

The California Assembly’s Select Committee on Job Creation for the New Economy will meet in San Diego on May 18 with panelists from some of San Diego’s largest technology businesses.

Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher is committee chairman. Fletcher is also running for San Diego mayor in the June 5 election.

The committee meeting runs from 2 to 4 p.m. May 18 at Gen-Probe Inc., 10210 Genetic Center Drive in Sorrento Mesa. Panelists will include representatives from Brightscope Inc., Gen-Probe, Northrop Grumman, Qualcomm Inc. and Soitec. Also present will be representatives from the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp. and UC San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering.

Topics to be addressed are barriers to job creation and job market misconceptions. A statement from the Fletcher campaign said there are thousands of jobs available in San Diego County’s technology sector for people with technical skills.

Fletcher is running for mayor of San Diego against Carl DeMaio, Bonnie Dumanis, Bob Filner and Tobiah Pettus. The ballot also has five write-in candidates.
