The San Diego office of Balfour Beatty Construction Co. has received a contract for approximately $18.5 million, to build a 144-person dormitory at Travis Air Force Base in Northern California.

A May 11 statement from the U.S. Defense Department said the task order, under a previously announced multiple-award contract, calls for design, engineering and construction of primary and support facilities for the new dormitory. The facilities will include 36 modules accommodating a total of 144 people, a common area, and a mechanical and electrical plant.

The project also includes demolition of two existing dormitory buildings. Work will be performed in Fairfield, Calif., and is expected to be completed by November 2013.

The contracting agency is the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest in San Diego, which received six proposals for the project, the statement said.
