Wal-Mart Stores Inc. plans to hire 250 workers for a new Walmart store set to open this summer in Encinitas. An April 30 company statement said the hiring process will begin May 9, with details available on the retailer’s website.
The new store is planned for a site at 1550 Leucadia Blvd., in the Encinitas Ranch shopping center near El Camino Real. Walmart will occupy a building that formerly housed a Home Expo store.
In related news, a San Diego Superior Court judge recently ruled that Wal-Mart can proceed with construction of its Neighborhood Market store, planned for a building to be renovated in San Diego’s Sherman Heights neighborhood.
The Coalition for Safe and Healthy Economic Progress had sought to block the project, claiming it required new environmental impact reviews. Judge Timothy B. Taylor ruled April 25 that a previous study concluded there were no negative environmental impacts.
