SeaWorld Goes Pole to Pole With New Store

Thursday, March 15, 2012

SeaWorld San Diego has opened a new retail store, called Pole to Pole, selling North and South Pole-themed merchandise and featuring interactive elements educating visitors on the wildlife of both regions.

The store opened Feb. 27 and will operate through April 27, according to a statement from the Mission Bay theme park. The shop is located near the park’s Penguin Encounter attraction.

“We wanted to create another park experience to help guests understand more about the concerns facing polar regions and the animals that live there,” said Lauren DuBois, SeaWorld’s assistant curator of birds.

Kid-friendly activities at the store include educational crafts, animal meet-and-greets with penguins and arctic foxes, and storytelling. Guests can also learn about polar concerns and conservation through interactive LED screens located throughout the store.

SeaWorld educators are on hand throughout the day helping with special activities, answering questions and highlighting behind the scenes tours that guests can take to learn more about wildlife conservation, the statement said.
