Garden Fresh Restaurant Corp. of San Diego has extended its prepackaged salad kit offerings, previously sold primarily in wholesale club stores, to the refrigerated aisles and produce sections of locally based Barons Market.

A June 18 statement from Garden Fresh said the Joan’s Broccoli Madness Salad Kits are based on a recipe used in the company’s Souplantation restaurants. The kits serve four to five and sell for approximately $5.99.

Financial terms of the retail arrangement were not disclosed. Barons, with headquarters in Point Loma, will be selling the kits in its four markets located in Rancho Bernardo, Point Loma, Temecula and Murrieta.

Garden Fresh, with corporate offices in Rancho Bernardo, operates 112 company-owned restaurants in 15 states, under the names Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes.

The company said the salad kits were launched four years ago, and more than 1 million kits have been sold in eight states, mostly in big-chain club stores. Garden Fresh plans to launch more Souplantation-related retail items in other grocery stores and wholesale clubs in the near future.
