Jimbo’s to Open Fifth Location in Horton Plaza

Natural food grocer Jimbo’s … Naturally! says it has signed a lease for 28,000 square feet in the Westfield Horton Plaza shopping center.

Jimbo’s CEO Jim Someck declined to give terms of the lease. He said the store would open in the second quarter of 2013.

The store will be on the second floor of the mall. “In order to make the location as accessible and inviting as possible to shoppers, Westfield is spending significant dollars to overhaul the area where our store will be situated,” Someck said in a note to customers, posted on the Jimbo’s Facebook page.

Jimbo’s has four locations in suburban San Diego: Carmel Valley, 4S Ranch, Escondido and Carlsbad. Someck said the business has long been looking for a site in central San Diego.

Horton Plaza was home to Irvine Ranch Market when the shopping center first opened in the mid-1980s. At the time the center was an ambitious downtown redevelopment project.
