Cinepolis Luxury Cinemas plans a mid- to late-February debut for its deluxe movie theater set to open in Carlsbad’s La Costa neighborhood at 6941 El Camino Real.
A company statement issued Jan. 26 said the six-screen theater will have amenities similar to the eight-screen cinema opened in July 2011 by the Mexico-based company at Del Mar Highlands Town Center in Carmel Valley.
Lobby areas are designed and furnished to resemble upscale hotels, with gourmet fare served in its lobby and auditoriums. Theater seats are surrounded by about 7 feet of space, and patrons during movies can summon staff to order items such as sandwiches, quesadillas, mini-pizzas and chicken fingers, along with movie house staples like popcorn and candy.
Auditoriums at the Carlsbad theater have an average of 88 seats, and two will have bar service, the statement said. The theater will use state-of-the-art digital equipment, including high-definition, 3-D and surround-sound technologies.
Cinepolis is the largest movie theater chain in Latin America and the fourth largest worldwide, with 2,800 movie screens at more than 200 theaters. The two San Diego County cinemas are its first U.S. locations, both taking the place of theaters that had been closed by Vista-based UltraStar Cinemas.
