The South County Economic Development Council, a nonprofit business advocacy group, highlighted a number of achievements for 2011 that advanced the South Bay region.

Among these were conducting a survey of the San Ysidro border crossing to alleviate pedestrian wait times; creating a South Bay page within the website for the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau; and launching a business outreach initiative in three cities in the region to identify companies that were hiring and laying off.

The organization that maintains its headquarters in National City also hosted several public forums aimed at educating the business community about various improvement projects, and other important issues affecting the region.
