The Port of San Diego is officially opening the Shelter Island-America’s Cup Harbor public promenade, built as part of a larger commercial development project.

The port district has scheduled a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the recently completed promenade for 10 a.m. today. The promenade is located between the San Diego Marine Exchange (2636 Shelter Island Drive) and Point Loma Seafoods (2805 Emerson St.).

A port district statement said the 700-foot promenade was built as part of locally based Driscoll Inc.’s new $6.3 million commercial development called Intrepid Landing, which also includes a recently completed, 40-slip marina. Construction is expected to begin in 2013 on a restaurant, commercial buildings and office space.

The promenade will give pedestrians and cyclists easier access from Shelter Island to Harbor Drive.
