Zion Market Plans First Quarter Opening at Former Sears Site

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

Locally based Zion Market is tentatively scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2013 at 7655 Clairemont Mesa Blvd., in the Kearny Mesa space vacated last year by Sears.

The Korean-focused grocer is relocating from its current space at 4611 Mercury St., and has signed a 10-year lease at the new 94,500-square-foot location, according to a statement from brokerage firm CBRE, which represented Sears. Zion Market was represented by Green Light Realty.

“The location on Mercury Street is very difficult for customers to park,” said CBRE Senior Vice President Mike Moser, noting that the new venue has multiple entrances and “significantly more parking.”

Zion Market opened its first San Diego store in 1979, and its new location is nearly three times bigger than the Mercury Street site. Zion operates a total of four stores selling food and other household goods, including locations in Los Angeles, Cerritos and Irvine.
