Harper Construction Co. Inc. of San Diego has been awarded a contract of approximately $54.3 million, to design and build student officer quarters at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia.

A U.S. Defense Department statement said the fixed-price contract is for work on phases five and six of the base’s Basic School student officer quarters. The work includes four new facilities that will support lodging for Marine officers undergoing initial training at the school.

The contract includes three options which, if exercised, would increase its cumulative value to just over $112.5 million. Work will be performed in Quantico, Va., with expected completion by October 2016.

The project was competitively procured via the Navy Electronic Commerce website, with 28 proposals received by the Navy Facilities Engineering Command in Washington, D.C.
