The San Diego Padres announced that the team has extended its player development contract with the Single-A Lake Elsinore Storm for two more years, through the 2014 season.
The Padres have been affiliated with the Riverside County team since 2001.
“To have The Diamond (ballpark) located right outside San Diego is a perfect fit for our organization and our fans,” said Josh Byrnes, the Padres’ executive vice president and general manager, in a prepared statement.
Some 46 players, plus three members of the coaching staff, have made their starts with the Storm and have gone on to make their Big League debuts with the San Diego Padres.
The Storm’s win-loss record since becoming a Padres affiliate in 2001 is 821-716, or .534.
