The Ensign Group Inc. of Mission Viejo made its move to acquire the real estate and other assets of Palomar Vista Healthcare Center in Escondido after leasing the property for the better part of a decade.

Following the purchase for an undisclosed amount of cash, the 74-bed skilled nursing facility continues to be run by Palomar Vista Healthcare Center.

With a presence in primarily the western U.S., Ensign also recently acquired two additional facilities in Idaho: Discovery Care Centre, a skilled nursing facility and assisted living facility with 45 skilled nursing beds and 24 assisted living units; and Owyhee Health & Rehabilitation Center, a skilled nursing facility with 49 beds.

The Escondido and Idaho purchases bring Ensign’s growing portfolio to 107 facilities, 83 of which are Ensign-owned. Christopher Christensen, Ensign’s president and chief executive officer, reaffirmed that Ensign is actively pursuing well-performing and struggling skilled nursing, assisted living and other health care-related businesses across the United States.

Elsewhere in the region, Ensign owns Arroyo Vista Nursing Center in San Diego, The Springs at Pacific Regent in La Jolla, Carmel Mountain Rehab and Health Care Center, Lemon Grove Care and Rehab Center, and the Vista Knoll Specialized Care Facility in Vista.
