Cymer Inc., a San Diego-based maker of lasers used for manufacturing semiconductors, reported Oct. 20 third-quarter net income of $11.3 million on revenue of $128.7 million.
That compared with net income of $20.9 million on revenue of $141.7 million for the like quarter of 2010.
Cymer said shipments of its deep ultraviolet laser machines were significantly lower than the second quarter as chip-makers reduced their capital investments. The company also generates revenue from servicing the existing machines it sells.
Cymer forecast a flat quarter in the final quarter of the year, with revenue of $128 million. It didn’t provide earnings projections.
