Qualcomm Inc. said on Dec. 8 that it has introduced two new microchips for mobile phones. They are part of the company’s Snapdragon line.

The Snapdragon S4 mobile processors have dual-core central processing units running at up to 1 gigahertz, or 1 billion cycles per second.

The chips, which go by the names MSM8625 and MSM8225, also contain Qualcomm Adreno model 203 graphics processing units and integrated third-generation modems.

Qualcomm also said it’s at work updating its reference designs. These give engineers at third-party device manufacturers a hand at designing new smartphones.
