HME Wireless Looking to Serve Up Greater Efficiency

HME Wireless Inc. said in February that Irvine-based Claim Jumper Restaurants LLC has deployed TableScout, HME’s wireless dining room management technology. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Using HME Wireless’ hand-held wireless transmitter, dining room staff can send updates such as “check paid,” “table cleared” and “table bused” to the restaurant’s hostess station. HME says the technology boosts restaurant efficiency and is an improvement over managers surveying the dining room and taking note with pen and paper. HME also reports that the client has integrated TableScout electronics into a broader restaurant communication system.

HME Wireless, formerly NTN Wireless Communications Inc., is a subsidiary of locally based HM Electronics Inc. Claim Jumper operates 46 restaurants in eight states.

Stimulus Money Helps Bring Healthy Addition to Area

Family Health Centers of San Diego celebrated the grand opening of its Lemon Grove community health center Feb. 23. The clinic, which provides primary care services to low-income residents and the uninsured, received a $1.3 million grant from the economic stimulus package last year. The Grossmont Healthcare District also provided $150,000 to help build the center, which is estimated to serve 4,500 patients a year. It is located at 7592 Broadway.

Jennette Lawrence, director of government and community relations for Family Health Centers of San Diego, said the nonprofit organization noticed a need for a clinic in the area during a series of screenings at local schools and libraries.

“We found we were serving 3,000 Lemon Grove residents at our other clinics,” she said. “That’s clearly an indication of families in Lemon Grove that need access.”

City Sees Bond Rating Increase, Costs Decline

The city’s $11.45 million in tax allocation bonds received an A- rating, up from BBB+, from Standard & Poor’s rating service last month.

S&P based the rating on the mature project area in the region that has experienced a strong assessed valuation growth averaging 9.7 percent annually since fiscal year 2000.

Because of the higher rating, the city will pay less in interest and insurance, the city said Feb. 23.

Volunteers in Medicine, a nonprofit operator of a free medical clinic in El Cajon, has received a $100,000 grant from the Grossmont Healthcare District. The district’s board unanimously approved the funding last week, which will be used to help cover expenses for X-rays and ultrasound tests, along with diagnostic lab fees and medical supplies for treating the uninsured.

More than 60 health care professionals volunteer their time at the clinic, located at 1457 E. Madison Ave. The clinic serves about 1,000 patients a year, most of whom are employed but without health insurance.

The Grossmont Healthcare District is a public agency that supports health-related community programs and services in the eastern part of the county.
