In a series of management changes, the CEO of San Diego-based Awarepoint Corp. has left the company.
Awarepoint made the announcement April 29. It did not say what prompted the move.
Jason Howe had been with the company since its inception in 2002, helping it raise $30 million and grow to 60 employees.
A company spokeswoman said it has no plans to seek an interim CEO. Brad Weinert, a former Novatel Wireless executive, has been appointed to take over many lead responsibilities as president and chief operating officer. He will focus on the company’s immediate needs, Awarepoint said.
“Our directive now is to assure we have fully scalable and sustainable initiatives to execute the tremendous opportunities that lie ahead,” Weinert said in a release.
Awarepoint offers sensor technology for tracking hospital equipment and patients in real-time, using Zigbee-based devices. In March, the company closed a $10 million round of financing led by JAFCO Ventures of Palo Alto.
The company also announced that it has hired Ben Sperling as vice president of business development. Sperling served as a director of strategic business development for McKesson Automation, and also as director of McKesson Provider Technologies’ RFID program.
Additionally, Thomas Hamelin has been appointed senior vice president of business process improvement. Hamelin, a former associate administrator for UC San Diego’s Medical Center, will identify ways of containing costs and boosting quality of care.
