Cubic Helps Vancouver Gird for Winter Games

Cubic Transportation Systems, a unit of San Diego-based Cubic, said Sept. 30 its fare collection system is part of Vancouver, British Columbia’s new rail line that opened 15 weeks ahead of schedule in advance of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Cubic will receive $11 million under the deal announced in March 2008.

Since its opening in late August, the Canada Line has drawn an average of 82,500 riders daily, according to the South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority.

The 12-mile rail system runs from Vancouver’s waterfront to the city of Richmond, and to the Vancouver International Airport.

Cubic is no stranger to British Columbia, having worked on transportation projects in the province for about 20 years. Cubic installed a ticketing system for the city’s Sky Train during the Expo of 1986.
