Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center Chief Resigns

The Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center said it is seeking an interim chief executive following the resignation of Dr. Albert Deisseroth, who left his position effective March 11 to pursue full-time research on an investigational cancer vaccine.

Deisseroth, who served for six and a half years as president and chief executive, will remain with the nonprofit cancer research center as clinical director.

Deisseroth led the charge on developing a less-toxic vaccine to treat breast cancer. His studies at Yale University provided the impetus for research at Sidney Kimmel. Earlier this year, the FDA approved the vaccine for early stage testing in humans.

Deisseroth will manage breast cancer trials conducted at UCLA and Sharp HealthCare in San Diego for women whose breast cancer has returned following surgery.

He will also lead trials involving prostate cancer recurrence in men who have undergone radiation therapy.
