Mitchell International to Buy Fair Isaac Unit

San Diego-based Mitchell International Inc. said April 3 that it planned to buy the medical bill review business unit of Fair Isaac Corp. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Fair Isaac’s workers’ compensation medical cost containment business has 200 employees, including 100 in Irvine and 70 in suburban Dallas.

Mitchell Executive Vice President Tom McCarthy said there will be no layoffs following the transaction.

Mitchell does some work in medical claims. Still, Mitchell’s existing business and the business it plans to acquire require a specialized approach, McCarthy said.

Minneapolis-based Fair Isaac said April 1 that it was divesting itself of six business units that are either unprofitable or not part of its core business.

Mitchell is a privately held software company with headquarters in Scripps Ranch. Originally, the company provided information for automobile insurance claims.

That business remains one of its main offerings.

Fair Isaac has an unrelated business in San Diego. It produces fraud-spotting software.
