Navy Awards Construction-Related Contracts

Four local contractors and one out-of-town contractor were awarded an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity construction contract by the U.S. Navy that could yield each company up to $100 million.

According to the Department of Defense Web site, the contracts announced Sept. 19 allow the five companies , San Diego-based Harper Construction Co. Inc., Soltek Pacific and Douglas E. Barnhart; Riverside-based Stronghold Engineering Inc.; and Bonsall-based RQ Construction Inc. , to compete on task orders for new construction and improvements to be conducted at naval facilities in the Southwest.

Each company’s contract is not to exceed $100 million, bringing the possible cumulative total of all five contracts to $500 million with $25,000 of work being guaranteed to each company.

The contracts have a one-year base period and four one-year options.

Harper Construction has already won a $19.9 million initial task order for the design and construction of new bachelor officer quarters at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton near Oceanside. Work is scheduled for completion in July 2008.

The Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest, San Diego, awarded the contract.
