Grand Del Mar Names GM

The Grand Del Mar, a posh resort under construction by Manchester Grand Resorts, announced in mid-October that it has named veteran hotel executive Vikram Sood its general manager.

In his new role, Sood, 44, will oversee all day-to-day operations at the 261-room property, which is just outside of Del Mar and slated for completion in the fall of 2007. With nearly 20 years of industry experience, he served most recently as hotel manager of the Sanctuary at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina. Before that, he spent about 10 years with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and was a member of the opening management team at Four Seasons Resort Hualalai in Hawaii and Four Seasons Resort Aviara in Carlsbad. Additionally, he opened the Regent Las Vegas and was executive assistant manager for the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua and director of operations for L’Auberge Del Mar Resort & Spa.

He earned a master’s degree in hotel, restaurant and travel administration from the University of Massachusetts and a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the University of British Columbia. A native of India, Sood was raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and now lives in Carmel Valley with his wife and four children.

The Grand Del Mar, which includes the Tom Fazio-designed, par-72 Grand Golf Club and a fine dining restaurant, Addison, will ultimately have two outdoor tennis courts, a 21,000-square-foot spa, four swimming pools and 39 villas. Some of the villas have multiple owners, while others are wholly owned.
