Brennan Takes Reins at CryoCor

San Diego-based CryoCor, Inc., a medical device company, has announced that Edward Brennan has been promoted to chief executive officer.

Brennan, 54, who previously served as the chief operating officer, joined CryoCor in January 2005.

The company’s founder, Gregory Ayers, 43, is the former CEO. He will remain an adviser to Brennan and a member of the board of directors.

The chief operating officer position remains unfilled, the company reported.

Before working at CryoCor, Brennan spent 24 years in the health care field. He has worked for CardioGenesis Corp. of Foothill Ranch and DepoMed Systems of Menlo Park. He was also a vice president of Seattle-based venture group Tredegar Investments, which became Perennial Ventures in 2001.

CryoCor’s core technology is the CryoCor cardiac cryoablation system for treating cardiac arrhythmias through use of extreme cold to destroy targeted cardiac tissue.

The product has been approved in Europe. The company has submitted an application for approval from the Food and Drug Administration in the United States.

The company was founded in late 2000 and trades on the Nasdaq as CRYO. Shares were up 23 cents at $3 late in the afternoon of March 22.
