Global Hawk Logs 5,000th Hour in Combat

Northrop Grumman Corp. announced Jan. 3 that its Global Hawk unmanned spy plane surpassed 5,000 hours while flying in combat.

The company was not specific about when or where the aircraft completed the 5,000th hour of combat flight. The company said the flight occurred recently “while on a mission supporting the global war on terrorism.”

El Segundo-based Northrop Grumman houses its Global Hawk program in San Diego, though it builds the aircraft elsewhere.

The robot aircraft, which flies at altitudes above 60,000 feet, has accumulated more than 8,000 flight hours total.
