BIA Sets Sights on Urban Areas

The Building Industry Association of San Diego has formed the Urban Council, which will focus on urban development and redevelopment in San Diego County.

“San Diego is facing an urban transformation, and the BIA is energized about being a part of its future,” said Scot Sandstrom, the BIA president, who also heads Trimark Pacific Homes in San Diego.

According to the BIA, creation of the council “reflects a shift in the building industry from traditional tract developments to creating urban communities.”

Creation of the Urban Council marks the first time in 20 years that the BIA has added a new council or division to its 1,461-member association.

The other councils include sales and marketing, specialty contractors, homebuilders and North and South County divisions.

The Urban Council officers are Mike Neal, H.G. Fenton, chairman; and Russ Haley, CityMark Development, vice chairman. Serving on the board of directors are Peter Allen, D.R. Horton; Richard Bach, Turner Construction Co.; Gordon Carrier, Carrier Johnson; Bob Cummings, K.
