Hotelier Doug Manchester Donates $5M to University

San Diego developer Doug Manchester and his wife, Elizabeth, are donating $5 million to Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The Manchesters are dedicating 80 percent of the gift to support faculty in the university’s undergraduate college. The remaining portion will go toward the school’s golf program endowment.

The Manchesters’ son, Douglas, is a senior at Wake Forest; daughter Annie graduated from the school in 2003.

In recognition of the gift, West Hall will be formally dedicated as Manchester Hall at a campus ceremony Oct. 21. The building is part of the Calloway Center of Business, Mathematics and Computer Science. Also being dedicated at the ceremony will be Manchester Plaza, which comprises an extensive lawn bordered by academic and administrative buildings.

The Manchester Athletic Center was named in their honor following an earlier donation.
