Executive Spotlight

Union Bank has named Bruno Rodriguez vice president and branch manager of the Coronado office.

He’s responsible for managing the office’s team of bankers, supporting the existing customer base as well as developing a foundation with new consumers and small businesses throughout the region. Rodriguez served as senior premier banker for Bank of America for 18 years.

ACCOUNTING

PKF, Certified Public Accountants, has hired Kimberly Ryan and Dianna White, both CPAs, as senior managers. Ryan will serve as tax senior manager, having 11 years of experience with Deloitte. White will act as audit senior manager, with eight years of experience working at Deloitte.

CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN

PCL Construction Services has hired Randy Andrus as senior estimator. Andrus has 37 years’ experience in construction. In his new position, he will be responsible for pre-construction and estimating services for PCL’s public and private clients.

Gafcon has said that William Morrison, one of its senior project managers, has earned his LEED professional accreditation. Morrison has been a part of the Gafcon construction team since 2007 and has 10 years’ experience in the construction industry. Before joining Gafcon, he worked as the development manager for BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse. He’s also worked at Ridge Landscape Architects, ADL Planning, Estrada Land Planning and Howard Associates.

LauraBirnsDesign EcoFurnishings has hired Nune Richards as its national sales director. She has 40 years’ experience in the interior design industry. LauraBirnsDesign has also hired Maureen Giuffre for its sales team. She has worked in the industry for 25 years and has a background in national commercial store development and interior design.

EDUCATION

The Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District Citizens Bond Oversight Committee has named Ron Oberndorfer as its newest member.

He’s the managing director of the La Mesa law office of Fischbeck & Oberndorfer. Oberndorfer has served on the boards of Grossmont Hospital Corp., the Olaf Weighorst Museum Foundation, Foothills Bar Association, East County Lawyer Referral Service, the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce, the Wellness Community of San Diego and the San Diego Jewish Academy.

GOVERNMENT AND NONPROFIT

The United Jewish Federation has appointed Steven J. Morris to CEO. Most recently, Morris acted as the founder and owner of a venture capital and management consulting firm. He has experience in operations management and strategic planning. Previously, Morris served on a variety of boards, including the Jewish Family Service of Colorado, AIPAC and the Colorado Capital Bank, and has served as a member of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee and the Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado Venture Israel Philanthropy Fund.

Rear Adm. Len Hering Sr. has relinquished command of Navy Region Southwest to Rear Adm. William French. Hering has retired after 32 years of service. French has served as commander for the Navy Region Marianas and U.S. Naval Forces, Marianas, reporting from Guam.

Hering began his naval career assigned to the commissioning crew of USS Fahrion (FFG 22) as ship’s control officer and then combat systems officer. He once had command of the USS Aries (PHM 5) and USS Doyle (FFG 39).

The new man in charge of Navy bases in the southwest United States, French is a submarine officer and graduate of the Navy’s Nuclear Power Training, and has served on the USS Spadefish (SSN 668), as operations officer on the USS Sea Devil (SSN 664), and engineer on the USS Tecumseh (SSBN 628). He’s also served as executive officer of the USS Helena (SSN 725) and commanded the USS Salt Lake City (SSN 716).

HEALTH CARE AND BIOTECH

Pennsylvania-based Absorption Systems has named Dr. Sarath Kanekal vice president of pharmacology and toxicology. He has 16 years of experience in the pharma industry within the preclinical area, and is a veterinarian and board-certified toxicologist. In his new role, Kanekal will be overseeing all technical staff at San Diego-based Perry Scientific, the business’s in vivo toxicology and pharmacokinetics facility.

LAW

Marks, Golia & Finch has announced the addition of Thomas L. Rausch and Elisabeth Skillen McLaughlin as associates. Rausch is allowed to practice before all courts in California, Nevada, New Jersey and New York. He practices in the areas of business litigation and construction law. McLaughlin previously worked as an associate for Luce, Forward, Hamilton and Scripps, and practices in the areas of trusts and estates and business transactions.

The San Diego chapter of the Association of Law Libraries has named Robert F. Richards president. Richards has 30 years of experience in the field of research and communication, with additional experience in major library overhauls and relocations. He works as the assistant librarian for Luce Forward. He’s also a member of the American Association of Law Libraries, Southern California Association of Law Libraries and San Diego Area Law Libraries.

Higgs, Fletcher & Mack has announced the addition of Terrell “Teri” A. Quealy as a partner in its Tort and Insurance Practice Group. She joined the firm in 1984 after four years in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General Corps. However, in 1991, Quealy left to join a boutique law firm specializing in insurance coverage. Most recently, she was national supervising coverage counsel for the members of the Ohio Casualty Group.

MEDIA AND MARKETING

Search Optics has named Kevin Konczal vice president of operations. He will be responsible for the strategic planning and direction of the operations department. Konczal will work to improve the company’s systems and processes, and produce initiatives that will focus on enabling Web development projects to launch successfully. He has 20 years’ experience in the Web development, automotive manufacturing and information technology industries. Most recently, he served as chief operating officer for a hybrid technology operation.

DiscoverSD.com has hired Chris Caudle as vice president of sales and marketing. Previously, he served as the senior sales leader at SignonSanDiego.com, where he created a hybrid manager/sales representative position to direct and provide assistance to new online representatives, and maintained and increased profit from new and existing accounts. In his new role, Caudle will be assisting the editor in managing the Web site’s redesign.

MediaTech Digital Film and Recording Studios has named Monty Jordan campus director. He has 40 years of experience in the film and television industry as a director, performer and producer, and 20 years of university leadership experience from UCLA, the University of Oklahoma and Nova Institutes, among other institutions.

MISCELLANEOUS

Shelley Addy has announced the incorporation of Human Resources GPS. She serves as the consultancy’s president. Addy has 19 years of experience in the design, development and leadership of human resources programs in industries such as retail, manufacturing, biotechnology, aerospace and software engineering.

Sleep Analytics has named Dr. Craig Cook a member of the BioPosture Professional Advisory Board. Sleep Analytics markets the BioPosture product line of memory foam mattresses and pillows. Cook has chiropractic offices in San Diego and Encinitas. He’s a certified chiropractic sports physician and one of the team doctors for the San Diego Padres.

TECHNOLOGY

Rapid Bridge has hired Vikas Chaudhary as vice president of sales. Most recently, Chaudhary worked for ARM as director of worldwide sales. He has 17 years of experience in the semiconductor space and previously worked for Artisan/Nurlogic, Cadence Design Systems, Avant! and Nortel Networks.
