$6B Deal for Aerostructures

More work is flowing to Goodrich Corp.’s Aerostructures unit in Chula Vista.

In a deal with a potential value of $6 billion, Goodrich has agreed to provide France-based Airbus with engine housings and thrust reversers for its A350 aircraft.

Assembly will be in Toulouse, France, but design and manufacturing will take place in Goodrich’s Chula Vista facility, formerly known as Rohr.

The A350 is slated to enter service in 2010. The deal will bring Aerostructures 20 years of original-equipment and after-market sales.

The A350 is a twin-engine plane accommodating 245 passengers. It is different from the recently unveiled A380, a four-engine plane accommodating 555 passengers on two levels.
